What is oxygen therapy?

Oxygen therapy involves  administering high concentrations of oxygen to the patient . It is used to improve the functioning of the body, especially the respiratory, circulatory or immune systems. Depending on the patient’s needs, the therapy can be performed both in outpatient and hospital settings. Thanks to the use of oxygen therapy, it is possible to shorten the recovery time and accelerate the body’s regeneration processes.

Devices used in oxygen therapy

During oxygen therapy, various devices are used that allow for controlled administration of oxygen at the appropriate concentration. The choice of specific equipment depends on the patient’s needs and the goals of the therapy. Among the most important  devices for oxygen therapy  are oxygen concentrators, oxygen masks and hyperbaric chambers.

  • Hyperbaric chambers

Hyperbaric chambers are specialized devices that allow for oxygen therapy under pressure. The patient stays in a closed chamber, where they are exposed to oxygen under increased pressure.  This type of therapy allows for better oxygen penetration into the body’s tissues and accelerates regeneration processes . Oxygen reaches places in the body where hemoglobin is not able to transport it under normal conditions, e.g. cartilage, joints, eyeballs. Hyperbaric chambers are used primarily in the treatment of diseases of the respiratory, nervous, hormonal or circulatory systems.

  • Oxygen concentrators

Oxygen concentrators are portable devices that allow the patient to be given high-concentration oxygen. They are mainly used in home therapy, as a supplement to treatment conducted in hospital conditions. Oxygen concentrators are used, among others, in the treatment of chronic respiratory failure or angina.

  • Oxygen masks

Oxygen masks are easy-to-use devices that allow oxygen to be administered directly to the patient through the nose and mouth. These masks are used in both hospital and outpatient settings, and their main purpose is to maintain the appropriate concentration of oxygen in the patient’s blood. Depending on the needs, oxygen masks can be used permanently or temporarily.

In summary, oxygen therapy is a modern treatment method that is widely used in medicine. Thanks to the use of various devices, this therapy allows for the effective treatment of many diseases and supports the regeneration processes of the body.
